‘D.W.’ Lindsey

Services for Dorman "D.W." Lindsey, 74, Ben Wheeler, were held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 14, at Hilliard Funeral Home Chapel, Van, with Terry Jackson officiating.

Burial was in Salem Cemetery.

Mr. Lindsey died July 12, 2008.

He was born August 20, 1933 in Bearden, Ark. He was a door-to-door salesman at the age of 5. He graduated from Polytechnic High School in Fort Worth in 1952 and attended colleges in Arlington and Tyler. He was a cadet Captain of the Fort Worth Civil Air Patrol and completed aviation schools at Tinker and Goodfellow Air Force bases. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a supply specialist and later in the Texas Air National Guard in Grand Prairie.

He was one of the top store managers for M.E. Moses & Company in Mesquite, where he was the beautification chairman from 1967 to 1969, and director of the chamber of commerce. He was instrumental in acquiring two state historical markers for the city of Mesquite, where he organized the firs annual Christmas Parade. He later moved to East Texas and was elected president of the East Texas International Management Council in 1981. He was co-owner of L & L Plant Company in Ben Wheeler, and later owned and operated Lindsey Nursery. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church since 1983.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Smith; his father, Woodrow Lindsey; granddaughter, Emmie J. Lindsey; and brother, Buford Lindsey.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mary Magdalene Lindsey; children, Melissa Jackson, Rising Star, Moressa Jo Neeley and Debi Sides, both of Midland, and Buddy Lindsey and David Lindsey, both of Ben Wheeler; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, Fred Smith, Fort Worth; and sisters, Janet Kyle, Arkansas, and Levine Watson, Fort Worth.

Pallbearers included grandsons and relatives, Bill Shiflet, Joe Shiflet, Damien Sides, Michael Jackson, Jacob Lindsey, Paul Neeley and Brandon Jackson.
