Services for Andy Lee Dowdle, 75, Longview, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at Greggton First Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Moore officiating.
Entombment was in Lakeview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum under direction of Rader Funeral Home, Longview.
Mr. Dowdle died July 10, 2008, in Longview.
He was born November 12, 1932 in Van Zandt County to Leon Anderson and Tiny Pearl Dowdle. He graduated from Van High School, where he was class president, voted Best All-Around Boy and was a member of the Vandal basketball and baseball teams. He attended Tyler Junior College. He served in the U.S. Army in the 5 th Armored Division at Ft. Hood. He worked for Texas Eastman, retiring after 35 years of service. He served as a deacon at Greggton First Baptist Church for many years. He was involved with the Longview Boys Baseball Association for more than a decade, winning many little league championships.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Nelda; children, Rick and Deborah Dowdle, Longview, Janie and James Phillips, Longview, Linda and Robert Nichols, Texarkana, Mary and Anthony Grush, Kilgore; grandchildren, Cristi Phillips, Britni Banda, and husband Blake, Nathan Nichols, Mallory Nichols, Nolan Grush and Braden Grush; sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Don Barr, Van; sister-in-law, Joyce Berleue, and husband Frank, Willis; and many nieces, nephews.
Pallbearers included Chris Bailey, Darwin Cooper, Charles Farr, Roy Ottmers, Kevin Stagner and Charlie Stansell.
