Bobby Matthews

Memorial services for Bobby Jack Matthews, 77, Lindale, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, at Hideaway Community Church with Jack Conley officiating, under direction of Hilliard Funeral Home, Van.

Mr. Matthews died August 22, 2008, in Tyler.

He was born July 29, 1931 in Colfax to Henry and Vera Hardegree Matthews. Formerly of Tyler, he was a resident of Lindale for 26 years. He worked in sales for Southern Pacific/Cotton Belt Railroad. He was a member of Hideaway Community Church and the Rotary Club, where he received a lifetime award for his service as song leader. He served in the U.S. National Guard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Billie Gilliam.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Matthews, Hideaway; sons and daughters-in-law, Rickey and Nancy Jeffers, Magnet Cove, Ark., Mike and Cindy Jeffers, Camden, Ark., and David Jeffers, New York City, N.Y.; and grandchildren, Joshua, Justin and Lindsey Jeffers.
