Memorial services for Haskell Eugene "Gene" Bullard, 76, Kerrville, formerly of Van, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 4, at Hilliard Funeral Home Chapel, Van.
Burial was in Creagleville Cemetery.
Mr. Bullard died in September 2008 at his residence.
He was born in Van to Eustace and Addie May Bullard. He was a 1949 graduate of Van High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force for five years, stationed in Germany and Libya. He was a resident of New York prior to returning to Texas in the 1960s. He worked as a photographer for Ling-Tempco-Vought. In 1972, he started Bullard International, a mail-order business in fishing tackle. He was involved in area youth through the Junior Optimist Club. He was known as "The Father of Modern Rod Building" for an artful wrapping technique which he developed and marketed.
He retired to Kerrville, where he grew and sold flowers and seed, as well as writing a daily Blog. He also obtained a Notary Public license.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Birdie Bullard, Kerrville; sister, Becky Davis, Dallas; numerous nieces and nephews.
