Services for Arlou Catherine Wilemon, 96, Wills Point, were held at 2 p.m., October 18, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point with Mr. Russell Harris and Mr. Mark Turner officiating.
Interment was at Haven of Memories Memorial Park in Canton.
Mrs. Wilemon passed away early Thursday morning, October 15, 2009, at her residence.
She was born February 11, 1913, in Hico, the daughter of John Milton Slaughter and Bertha Alma Long Slaughter. She grew up in the Wills Point area and graduated from Bethlehem Community School near Wills Point. In 1930, she married Hubert Thomas Horton. He passed away after being married for only thirteen years. In 1948, she married William Bruce Wilemon in Texarkana. They were married for fifty-nine years before his death on January 25, 2008. Arlou had been employed by Thurmon’s Variety Store in Wills Point and had worked at sewing factories in Wills Point and Terrell. She was also a salesperson for Fairway Shoe Store in Wills Point for twenty years, retiring in 1989. She was known by family and friends as MaMa Lou. She was a member of the Professional Business Women’s Club for many years and a member of the Wills Point Church of Christ.
Preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Hubert Thomas Horton and William Bruce Wilemon; four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include her daughters, June Horton Ellis and husband, Glynn, Wills Point, Bennie Ann Horton Henson and husband, G.B., Terrell; sister, Odaysell Calendar, Tyler; grandchildren, Mike Henson and wife, Donna, Mark Henson & wife, Cheri, Greg Ellis and wife, Stephanie, Cathy Turner and husband, Mark, Carol Howell, of Wills Point, Kim Cole and husband, Brad; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Tommy Lamar, Eugene Massey, Bill Loven, Dwight Keith, Jack McBride and Doyle Ethridge.
