Services for Jack Rufus Lybrand, 62, Lucas, were held at 2 p.m., November 10, at Russell Memorial United Methodist Church in Wills Point with Reverend Ray Reed officiating.
Burial followed at White Rose Cemetery in Wills Point. Services are under direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point.
He was born December 14, 1946, in Wills Point, to the late K.C. and Jean Lybrand. He was raised in Wills Point and graduated from Wills Point High School in 1965, where he was voted Most Athletic, was an Honorable Mention for All State quarterback, was All District in basketball, and was a state finalist in multiple track events. He attended The University of Texas at Austin, was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and the Silver Spurs, and graduated with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1970. After college, Jack served in Vietnam. He later earned his M.B.A. from the University of Tulsa in 1980. He met Susan Lee Babbitt in Tulsa, Oklahoma upon his return from Vietnam, and they were married in April, 1974. Jack and Susan had their first and only son Steve in December, 1976. Over his thirty-plus year career with ARCO/BP, Jack and his family moved from Longview, to Dallas, to Tulsa, to Houston, to Anchorage, to Midland, before returning to his roots in the Dallas/East Texas area in 1994. From his home on the ranch in Lucas, Texas, Jack spent the next several years commuting to Rhourde El Baguel, Algeria. After an early retirement in 2000, Jack formed his own independent consulting business where he spent much time in Johannesburg, South Africa, as well as Alaska and California through 2009.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Susan and adored son, Steve and wife, Mary of Dallas; brother, Karl and wife, Keeta, Wills Point, and their children, Michelle Hobbs, Canton and Amanda Walker, Wills Point and their families; father-in-law, John F. Babbitt and wife, Jo, Tulsa, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Julie and husband, Charles Rolle, Sedona, Arizona; brother-in-law, Jack and wife, Terry Babbitt, Cypress, California and their family; and many other relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of their choice. They would also like to thank St. Michael’s Hospice, Acapella In Home Care (Robert and Sam), Dr. Modi and Dr. Mintz and their staffs, and the oncology nursing staff at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas (Keithley, Amy, Marie, and Twyla).
Pallbearers were Bob Cannefax, Don Denton, Jimmy Lindsey, Steve Phillips, Tim Sockwell, Barry Sossaman.
