Accident Leaves One Dead, Another Injured
One woman died and her husband was injured in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 Saturday afternoon at the 543 mile marker.
Department of Public Safety Trooper Josh Sneed said failure to control speed was a factor in the crash.
Glennis Leonore Nelson, 45, Dallas, was traveling in a 2008 black Toyota Rav with three occupants, Jaid Nelson, 18, Dallas; Samual Dick, 72, Cape Town South Africa; and Ann Dick, 69, Cape Town South Africa.
Larry W. Turner, 52, Sibley, Louisiana, was driving a 2001 red tractor trailer towing a 2008 black Lufkin flatbed trailer.
"Nelson was traveling on the inside lane of I-20 and slowed down due to congested traffic," Sneed explained.
The Toyota was struck from behind by the 18-wheeler.
"The contributing factor is failure to control speed," Sneed said.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Dick were transported to Tyler hospitals where Mrs. Dick later died.
Sneed said Mr. Dick’s injuries are non-incapacitating.
All persons involved in the accident were wearing seat belts.
Turner will be charged with criminally negligent homicide.
