$600K In Scholarships Awarded To Seniors

More than $600,000 in scholarships was presented to Canton High School seniors during the Academic Awards Program May 21.

In addition to recognizing students with scholarships and special awards, those students who donated blood throughout the school year were given Red Cords which will be worn during the graduation ceremony.

The following students were honored with scholarships and awards:

Valedictorian Emily Sterling received a Eubank Honor Graduate Scholarship $200, McFadden Scholarship $10,000, Opportunity Award Scholarship $500, Highest Ranking Graduate-Texas Education Agency Award, Team Rike Scholarship $250, Rotary Club Scholarship $1,000, City of Canton Rayford Hutcherson Memorial Scholarship $4,000, Canton Athletic Boosters’ Outstanding Female Student Athlete Scholarship $800, and UIL Scholar Award.

Salutatorian Jessica Peterson received a Eubank Honor Graduate Scholarship $200, Texas Christian University Faculty Scholarship $40,000, Team Rike Scholarship $250, Rotary Club Scholarship $1,000, City of Canton First Monday Scholarship $4,000, and UIL Scholar Award.

Chelsea Baranski received a Eubank Honor Graduate Scholarship $200, Lon Morris Visual Arts Department Scholarship $7,500, Lon Morris Academic Award $7,000, Coordinating Board Top 10 percent Scholarship $2,000, Women’s League Scholarship $1,000, CLAW Scholarship $500, and UIL Scholar Award.

Kaitie Gummelt received a Eubank Honor Graduate Scholarship $200, West Texas A&M Academic Scholarship $14,000, West Texas A&M Residence Hall Scholarship $1,500, C.J. Red Davidson Scholarship $500, Don & Sybil Harrington Honor Scholarship $1,500, Lion’s Club Scholarship $1,000, Legacy Dental Scholarship $5,000, Rotary Club Scholarship $1,000, Canton Athletic Boosters’ Team Rike Student Athlete Scholarship $800, UIL Scholar Award.

Kaleb Hatley received a Eubank Honor Graduate Scholarship $200, TJC Choir Scholarship $1,600, TJC Presidential Scholarship $4,000, Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show Scholarship $2,500, 2009 All State Men’s Choir Award and UIL Scholar Award.

JJ Heddin received a Eubank Honor Graduate Scholarship $200, UIL Scholar Award and is a Red Cord Recipient.

Meagan Hogg received a Eubank Honor Graduate Scholarship $200, UT Tyler Patriot Scholarship $12,000, Three-Year Graduate Scholarship $3,000 and UIL Scholar Award.

Mason Matlock received a Eubank Honor Graduate Scholarship $200, UT Arlington Scholarship $1,000, UT Arlington President’s Charter Scholarship $8,000, UT Top 10 Percent Scholarship $2,000, Coordinating Board Top 10 Percent Scholarship $2,000, Women’s League Scholarship $1,000 and UIL Scholar Award.

Amanda Perkins received a Eubank Honor Graduate Scholarship $200, Texas Rural Water Association Scholarship $1,500, Baylor Dean’s Gold Scholarship $10,000, Baylor Need Based Scholarship $10,730, Texas Tech Grant Resident Scholarship $1,000, Women’s League Scholarship $1,000, and Little Hope Baptist Church Scholarship $500.

Blair Pierce received a Eubank Honor Graduate Scholarship $200, Lion’s Club Scholarship $1,000, Imogene Woolverton Memorial Scholarship $1,000, Canton Athletic Boosters’ Outstanding Female Athlete Scholarship $800, and UIL Scholar Award.

Taylor Rohrman received a Eubank Honor Graduate Scholarship $200, Christian Leadership Scholarship $7,000, Castilian Lodge Scholarship $1,500, Canton Chamber of Commerce Scholarship $500, Rotary Club Scholarship $1,000, CHS Band Boosters Senior Girl Scholarship $500 and UIL Scholar Award.

Andrew Wacaser received a Eubank Honor Graduate Scholarship $200, CHS Band Boosters Senior Merit Scholarship $750, and UIL Scholar Award.

Nicholette Wilkerson received a Eubank Honor Graduate Scholarship $200, Baylor President’s Gold Scholarship $44,000, Texas A&M-Merit Scholarship $1,000, First State Bank –Ben Wheeler Scholarship $1,000, UIL Scholar Award and was named Miss CHS.

Jordan Bozeman received a Eubank Honor Graduate Scholarship $200, Lion’s Club Scholarship $1,000, Fellowship of Christian Athletes Scholarship $250, University of Arkansas –Academic Achievement Scholarship $12,000, University of Arkansas-Athletic Scholarship $21,000 and is a Red Cord Recipient.
