Canton Plans Special National Night Out

Julie Vaughan, Editor

The Canton Municipal Court, Police and Fire Department are teaming up for National Night Out on Tuesday, October 6, from 6-8 p.m. at the First Monday Grounds Log Cabin located at the Farm-to-Market 859 entrance.

National Night Out is an annual event designed to strengthen the community by encouraging neighborhoods to engage in stronger relationships with each other and with their local law enforcement partners.

The goals are to heighten crime-prevention awareness, build support and participation in local anti-crime programs, and most importantly send a message that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

The Canton Municipal Court, along with Canton Police Department and Canton Fire Department, will be on-hand along with the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers, and Champion EMS.

Featured at National Night Out will be the Canton Police Department K-9 Unit, Canton Police Helicopter, Canton Fire Department fire engines, and Flight For Life helicopter.

There will be car seat inspections and installations, and child ID and fingerprinting kits.

Also, the Beat The Heat race car and fire truck will be on-hand, and children will have a chance to meet Sparky the Fire Dog and McGruff the Crime Dog.

Hot dogs and nachos will also be available for puchase to benefit the Canton Police Department.
