Fuel and a couple of road and bridge materials for the four Van Zandt County precincts were awarded to vendors Tuesday during the county commissioners’ court session.
Duko Oil of Emory was awarded the bid for road and bridge department fuel. Texas Paving of Ben Wheeler got the nod for chip rock and pea gravel, with Wes Scott Inc. of Cooper chosen as a backup supplier.
Both items were put out for a second round of bids after late bids were received from other companies earlier this month.
The court also approved a bid of $23,995 from Lewis Chevrolet for a pickup truck for Precinct 3.
Also in Tuesday’s meeting, the court met with Bob Dearman of Re/Max Rose Realty and surveyor Dennis Vogt on a request to change the plat of Eagle Estates subdivision, located in Precinct 2, and change the name to Eagle Ridge Estates.
Dearman explained that property owner J.A. Windham, also present at the meeting, wanted the plats redrawn to build five duplexes.
“I think it will upgrade the whole area with what he (Windham) is going to do there,” Dearman said.
With the new plat drawing being taken through the proper steps, the court unanimously approved the changes.
In other matters, the commissioners’ court took the following action:
— Authorized advertising for bids on monthly grease pump services for the Van Zandt County Justice Center.
— Approved an emergency budget amendment to increase Precinct 3 Road and Bridge Materials by $8,800, received from Bar Constructors Inc. for damages to Van Zandt County Road 3720.
— Approved an emergency budget amendment to increase the general fund by $2,723 for a grant match from the City of Canton for the Meals on Wheels program.
— Approved line item budget amendments for the county treasurer, county auditor, Precinct 1 Commissioner, Precinct 2 Commissioner and Precinct 3 Commissioner offices.
— Authorized advertising for bids to purchase a mowing tractor for Precinct 3.
— Approved the management letter from Pattillo, Brown & Hill LLP, Certified Public Accountants, for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2007, with direction for specific responses from the Precinct 1, 2 and 3 constable offices and the office of district attorney.
— Adopted an order designating Detra Janzen as the county’s investment officer effective June 1. In a separate motion, Janzen was added to the county’s TexPool list of authorized representatives, also effective June 1. Janzen is taking over as interim county treasurer on that date, replacing Terry Shepard after she resigned earlier this month.
— Approved the county’s investment policy with no changes from last year.
— Approved request of a quote from TAC (Texas Association of Counties) Health and Employee Benefits Pool for health insurance coverage.
