One Killed In Crash
VAN—Just after 9:30 Saturday morning, a Van man was killed in a one-vehicle crash on Van Zandt County Road 1316 six miles northwest of Van.
Department of Public Safety Trooper James Whitten said Joshua Wade Chamber, 26, was not wearing a seat belt in the 2005 Chrysler Sebring he was driving at the time of the accident.
"He was traveling east, and from what we could tell so far, it was like he looked down or got distracted and started driving off to the right and then he overcorrected back to the left then he drove right off into this creek bed and hit this tree," Whitten said.
"He was going pretty fast, about 55 or 60 which is the speed limit, and hit this tree with the very top of his car after he went airborne, crushed the car, and then it fell down," Whitten explained.
Whitten went on to say, "There was no alcohol or drug involved, so far, from what we could tell."
Chambers was pronounced dead at the scene by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Donald Kirkpatrick.
Whitten said the accident is still under investigation. An autopsy has been ordered.
Whitten was assisted by Troopers Kaleb Bullock and Edward Valdez.
