Van School Board Presents Awards

The Van ISD Board of Trustees met for the first time in 2010 Monday night and gave out a number of awards and recognitions.

To begin the meeting, the pledge was led by fourth and fifth grade student council members including Luke Adkison, Cortland Davidson, Cade Jones, Gunnar Murphy, Melody Stone, Jake Kellam, Ryan Reynolds, Brax Thompson, Ally Hansel, Taylor Tallant and Caleb York.

Fantastic awards were given J.E. Rhodes Elementary music teacher Debbie Hightower, Whitney Jones, Melissa Pugh, Kendra Entrop, Amy Briggs, Robyn Clark, Marcie Brown, Joni Murphree, Riki Tavera and Trish Stancil.

Teachers of the Month for January included Van Middle School winner Dena Morrow, Van Junior High winner Joni Murphree and Van High School winner Mike Vogt.

In other business, the board:

-approved the 2010-2011 district instructional calendar.

-approved the performance objectives from district and campus improvement plans.

-approved DEC (LOCAL)-compensation and benefits: leaves and absences.

-approved a donation of $3.000 from the Van Youth Football Association to be used in the purchase of a physical activity/physical fitness training mat.

-approved a participation agreement with PriDe of Texas Commodity Processing and Foodservice Purchasing Cooperatives.

-heard departmental reports.
