McCutchan, Deen Lead Class Of ’09
At an awards ceremony held on May 21, Sabrina Anne McCutchan was named the valedictorian of the class, and Taylor Nicole Deen is the salutatorian. McCutchan graduates with a 4.983 GPA, while Deen has a final GPA of 4.562.
McCutchan has been a member of the Speech and Debate team for all four years of high school, and served as captain her senior year. She has also competed in various UIL academic events throughout her high school career.
McCutchan served on the student council from 2005-07, and was class president during those years. She is a National Honor Society member, a member of the junior varsity tennis team, and editor of the school newspaper her senior year. McCutchan has also participated in two fall productions with the theater department.
McCutchan has received Who’s Who awards in 19 courses, and a National Merit Scholar in 2009. She was the State Champion in Informative Extemporaneous Speaking in 2008 and Best Speaker in a Congressional Workshop at Princeton University during TSA summer school in 2006.
A member of the College Mound Methodist Church youth group and Rotary Club, McCutchan plans to attend Duke University to pursue a Masters degree in economics. She hopes to work for the Federal Reserve and publish in academic journals.
Deen was honored for 12 years of perfect attendance at Wills Point ISD. During her high school years she was member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Key Club and Student Council. She has served as treasurer and secretary of the Key Club; and project chairperson of the National Honor Society.
Deen was also a cheerleader and member of the band for all four years of high school, and head cheerleader for both the JV and varsity squads. She received the Best Attitude award for two years as a varsity cheerleader, and the Most Improved Player in band her junior year.
Deen has been named Who’s Who Among American Students from 2005-07, and Who’s Who at Wills Point High School for three years. She was voted Best All-Around her senior year.
Deen is active with the youth group at First Baptist Church, serving on the youth leadership council and went on a mission trip to Tokyo with iWitness Ministries.
She will attend the University of North Texas, majoring in elementary education. She plans on earning a Masters degree and working as a diagnostician in education. Deen received over $18,975 in scholarships, including $16,000 from the University of North Texas.
