Plane Crashes In Hunt County
TERRELL—A Terrell resident, 65-year-old Jimmy Gaston Phillips, died sometime overnight Wednesday in a single-engine plane crash.
Phillips, the owner of the airstrip, was reportedly on his way to pick up a student, and according to Department of Public Safety officials the crash happened sometime Tuesday night after Phillips’ wife reported him missing the following morning when he did not return from the flight.
DPS officials reported that the Cessna 150-L crashed just beyond the airstrip.
Phillips owned and operated Phillips Flying Ranch Airport located at the intersection of Hunt County Road 2400 and 2322, about eight miles southwest of Quinlan.
Hunt County Chief Deputy Joe Knight confirmed the crash Wednesday afternoon and said deputies were dispatched to the location until DPS and the Federal Aviation Administration took over the investigation, which is ongoing. Those officials were not immediately available for comments at press time.
Unofficial reports are that only Phillips died in the crash.
