Sportsman’s Pavilion vendors moved to Canton Marketplace

Staff Writer

The vendors of the Sportsman’s Pavilion located on Highway 19 will move to their new home right down the road in the Canton Marketplace on July 1.

Wayne and Sharon Paul own both pavilions and are making the move to accommodate for the new Canton Antique Marketplace to open in the old Sportsman’s Pavilion in September.

“There is no permanent antique pavilion in Canton now that vendors can lock and leave. The pavilion will be one hundred percent antiques and collectibles,” said Paul.

Paul also said that if a vendor has an item that is a reproduction, it must be tagged as such.

“We already have some vendors from the Dallas area signing up with very quality merchandise,” said Paul.

Paul said some of those vendors include a well-known clock salesman that deals in all kinds of clocks and makes repairs, as well as, a vendor with walnut and fine Victorian furniture, and a primitive antiques dealer with antique sporting goods, lures, decoys and sports pictures.

The pavilion will house 70 plus vendors and there will be a grand opening celebration with free food and drinks when the pavilion opens in September.

The eight vendors currently located in the Sportsman’s Pavilion that are making the move to Canton Marketplace include vendors dealing in custom knives, swords, fishing and hunting equipment and camouflage clothing.

“We will also have a covered outdoor virtual shooting gallery beside the Canton Marketplace. It will have a big television screen and the shooter can decide what he wants to hunt such as small animals, birds or big game,” said Paul.

Canton Marketplace has more than 300 vendor spaces and has a full service restaurant, gourmet coffee shop and a malt shop.

“We make everything ourselves from meatloaf to homemade desserts,” said Paul.

The Pauls also have some other projects in store for the near future including a new office and recreation center at their RV park located on the north side of the Sportsman’s Pavilion.

“The office at the RV park will include a place to check in, a meeting room, general store and laundry room,” said Paul.

Paul also said that the RV park will be open all the time, not just during First Monday.
