Randal Brewer, Sports Editor

The Edgewood Bulldogs hit last second shots at the end of regulation and in the overtime period to give Wills Point its’ first loss of the season in the championship game of the Edgewood Tournament.

The Tigers advanced to the title game by defeating Alba-Golden (60-36) and Ferris (61-50), and then fell to Edgewood, 72-69.

Edgewood bounced back with a 17-11 advantage in the fourth to force the 59-59 tie and an extra period.

Darrius Rogers forced the overtime with a last second shot, and Dillon Parmer hit a three-pointer at the end of overtime to give the Bulldogs the win.

Cunigan led the scoring for Wills Point with 24, followed by Josh Boyd with 18 and Junior Hamilton with 12. Darryn York scored seven; Evann Padilla had four, Marquis Burch had two and Trent Jurica one.

Hamilton led the scoring in the win over Alba-Golden with 21 points. Boyd shot a perfect six-of-six from the field, including four-of-four on 3-pointers to score 16. Cunigan scored 11; Padilla and Jurica each scored four, and Burch and Deen had two apiece.

The Tigers are hosting tournament play this weekend, and opened against Caddo Mills on Thursday.
