Lady Eagles Tied For Second

Randal Brewer, Sports Editor

The Canton Lady Eagles fell to 1-1 in district play after a 5-0 loss to Wills Point on March 18.

The game was 0-0 through two innings before Wills Point pushed across the first run in the top of the third.

Canton’s Lauren Fedor got out of a two-on, no-out bind in the top of the fifth by retiring three in a row, including turning a double play by catching a line drive and doubling a runner off first.

She would have no such luck in the sixth though, when the Lady Tigers rallied for three runs, extending the lead to 4-0.

The Lady Eagles stayed in the game with another good defensive play in seventh. With a runner at second and no outs, shortstop Brittany Arnold fielded a grounder and got the out at first. First baseman Emily Sterling then gunned down the base runner trying to advance to third.

Wills Point managed another run before the third out was made though, giving the visitors a 5-0 lead going into the seventh.

Arnold and Bri Chamberlain got the only two hits of the game for Canton, both coming in the first inning.

Going into Tuesday’s games, Canton and Wills Point were tied at 1-1. Van and Mineola were tied at the top of the district, at 2-0, but The Lady Vandals were in Mineola on Tuesday. Eustace and Kemp were both 0-2, with Eustace hosting Canton, and Wills Point hosting Kemp.
