Bulldogs Comeback Defeats Mildred, 8-7
The Edgewood Bulldogs scored a huge come from behind win over the Mildred Eagles to assure themselves of at least a share of a district title. The team was in Blooming Grove on Friday, and win would clinch the title outright.
Brandon Bell struggled with control on the mound, but came back to score the tying run in the sixth, and drive in the winning run in the seventh.
Bell struck out the side in the first inning, but in between strikeouts he walked three and gave up a grand slam, spotting Mildred to a 4-0 lead. He had similar struggles in the fourth, walking three and giving up three consecutive hits. Mildred cashed in for a 7-0 lead.
Edgewood, which had been leaving runners on base in the early innings, began to knock them in the fourth. A Colten Hinton double and a wild pitch helped Edgewood close the gap to 7-2. Then in the sixth, Trevor Keele matched the Mildred grand slam with one of his own, and the Bulldogs were within one. Bell followed that up with a double and was driven in by Hinton.
With the score tied at seven in the bottom of the seventh, Pablo Salinas singled, Keele walked, and Bell scored Salinas with an RBI hit.
Levi Weaver pitched two scoreless innings in relief, and Weston Jameson got the win with a scoreless seventh.
