Bulldogs Beat Eustace In Two-Day Affair, 37-9

The Eustace Bulldogs were forced to make two trips to Edgewood when Friday’s game was postponed due to inclement weather. Trailing 7-0 when they left on Friday, Eustace left on Saturday with a 37-9 loss.

On Friday, Edgewood took the opening kickoff 66 yards in seven plays to score the opening touchdown on a 28–yard pass from Ethan Rutter to Clay Haltom.

Following the kickoff, Eustace moved 24 yards before lightening sent the teams to the locker rooms. After a two-hour wait, the game was re-scheduled for Saturday at noon.

Play began with JoJo Bradburn picking up 19 rushing yards, but a fumble stopped the drive there.

Edgewood picked up where it left off by moving 61 yards in 10 plays for a 14-0 lead. Levi Weaver scored from three-yards out with 2:35 left in the first quarter.

Eustace answered on the next possession. Chris Compton converted a second-and-19 with a 24-yard pass to Bradburn, and on the next play, Trevan Johnson took an inside handoff 32 yards for a touchdown. After the point-after kick, the score was 14-7 with 11:26 left in the half.

The teams traded punts before Edgewood struck again, this time moving 88 yards on a 12-play drive. Rutter finished with a three-yard run, and Edgewood led 21-7 with 1:15 left in the half.

Eustace threatened before the end of the half. A good kick return by ? Bersterman gave Eustace a first-and-10 at the 44, and runs of 11 and 17 moved the ball to the Edgewood 28. With :35 left, however, Edgewood’s Haltom intercepted an attempted halfback pass to end the threat.

In the third quarter, Edgewood expanded its’ lead to 28-7 when Rutter turned a third-and-one into a 21-yard touchdown drive.

On the ensuing possession, Eustace committed its third turnover, this time setting Edgewood up near midfield. On second-and-five, Edgewood’s Darrius Rogers was stopped for a loss, but danced his way through several Eustace defenders, then sprinted 41 yards for a touchdown and a 34-7 lead.

Early in the fourth, Eustace drove the ball to the one-yard line, but were stopped there on fourth down. Two plays later ?Petillo and ?Ward broke through to tackle the Edgewood ball carrier in the end zone for a safety, moving the score to 34-9. Edgewood’s Mario Bustillo would add field goal from 26 yards out to finish the scoring.
