Lady ’Dogs Holding On To Third Spot

A loss to Kerens bumped the Lady Bulldogs to third place in the district race as the second round of district games began. Edgewood, at 6-2, trails Kerens (7-1) and Scurry-Rosser (8-0).

Edgewood was scheduled to host Malakoff on Friday, and travel to Blooming Grove on Tuesday. The rematch with Scurry-Rosser will take place on January 29 in Scurry.

Playing in Kerens on January 15, the Lady ’Dogs were hurt by a first quarter during which they were outscored 14-5. The score for the final three quarters was 36-35, Kerens.

Chandler Short and Mikaela Brown both scored 11 points, and Brown added nine rebounds. S’Andra Govan scored eight, and Trish McDaniel had six. Allie Orrick added four.

The Lady ’Dogs bounced back in a big way on January 19, defeating Mildred 61-12. The Edgewood girls held Mildred to three points in the first half, and led 34-3 going into the locker room.

Four Lady ’Dogs scored in double figures, led by Orrick with 17. Orrick was 3-of-3 on 3-point shots and 7-of-9 overall. McDaniel and Brown each scored 12, with McDaniel shooting 6-of-9 from the field and Brown going 10-of-12 from the free throw line. Short scored 11.

The scoring was rounded out by Govan with six, Brandi Bell with two and Traci Boyd with one.
