Tigers’ Playoff Hopes Fading

The Van Vandals’ baseball team got a big win in their quest for a playoff berth, defeating Wills Point, 8-2, on Tuesday night.

The Vandals went into the game tied with the Tigers for the third spot in District 14-3A, and now hold a one-game lead with a 5-3 record. The two teams trailed Mineola and Canton, and those two teams also met on Tuesday night. Mineola scored a 7-1 victory, creating a first place tie with Canton at 6-2. The Vandals will host Canton on Tuesday with a chance to tie the Eagles for second place. At 4-4, the Tigers will need help from other teams to make the playoffs.

Chance Cotton went the distance for the Van, allowing three hits in seven innings, and striking out eight. Marshall Head got the loss for Wills Point,

The Vandals offense started fast, scoring four runs on five hits in the first inning. The Tigers trailed 7-0 when they went to bat in the sixth, and pushed across two runs to trail 7-2 going into the seventh. Van scored an insurance run in the seventh, and then held Wills Point without a run in the last at bat.
