Lady Tigers Take Second Place

The Lady Tiger track team came up three points short at the District 14-3A meet in Mineola. The Canton Lady Eagles won the team title with 156 points, and Wills Point came in with 153. Eustace was third with 128; Kemp was fourth with 92; Van scored 47 and Mineola had 40.

Only one Lady Tiger won gold at the meet. Ashley White won the 400-Meter Run in a time of 1:03.44. The team was powered by a total of five second-place finishes, including silver medals in all three relays.

The team will send 13 to the regional meet competing in 12 events. In addition to the 400, White qualified for the regional in the triple jump, the 4X100-Meter Relay, and the 4X200 Meter Relay. Other Lady Tigers that will compete at regional in multiple events are Precious Spencer (4X100 Relay, 4X200 Relay, Long Jump) Erica Darcie (100-Meter Dash, 4X100 Relay, 4X200 Relay) and Brooke Smith (4X100 Relay, 4X200 Relay).

The other qualifiers are Xenia Qualls (Shot Put), Jessica Smith (Pole Vault), Erin Penney (3200-Meters Run), Kaitlyn Mitchell (800-Meter Run), Brittany White (4X200 Relay), Elizabeth Gatlin (4X400 Relay) Bazil Satullo (4X400 Relay) Katie Connor (4X400 Relay) and Sarah Clifton (1600 Meter Run).

The boy’s team finished fourth in the point totals. Van won the team title with 168.5, followed by Eustace (145.5), Canton (110), Wills Point (104), Mineola (51) and Kemp (39).

The boys won four individual titles, led by Nathan White’s wins in the 3200, and 1600-Meter Runs. Steven Cunigan won the Triple Jump with a leap of 42’7", and sophomore Brandon Morris won the 100-Meter Dash in a time of 11.17.

In addition to those three, the Tigers will send four more athletes to the regional meet: Kiefer Davis (800-Meter Run, 4X400 Relay), Cornelius Hamilton (4X400 Relay, High Jump), Zac Bean (400-Meters, 4X400 relay) and Porter Lane (4X400 Relay).
