White Qualifies For State
Wills Point senior Nathan White qualified for the state track meet by placing second in the 3200-Meter Run at the regional meet held on May 15-16.
White ran the event in 9:37.64. First place Stephen Curry of Argyle won in a time of 9:30.04. White was a fraction of a second away from qualifying for state in the 1600-Meter run as well. White, who placed third with a time of 4:27.69, was edged out by Jake Roberts of Argyle, with a time of 4:27.46. Curry of Argyle won the race in a time of 4:23.41.
Jessica Smith provided the next best finish for Wills Point. Smith placed fourth in the Pole Vault, clearing a height of 10’6".
Kiefer Davis qualified for the finals in the 800-Meter Run, and finished sixth with a time 2:02.65.
The Girls 4X100 Meter Relay team of Brooke Smith, Precious Spencer, Ashley White and Erica Darcie also qualified for the finals, and finished in seventh place with a time of 51.82.
Only three other District 14-3A athletes advanced to state. Canton’s Devin Faber placed second in the Pole Vault, and Heather Sterling was second in the Girls 3200-Meter Run. Eustace’s Chelsea Truitt cleared 11’6" in the pole vault to place second and advance.
The state track meet will be held in Austin on June 4-6.
