Tigers Compete At State 7 On 7

The Wills Point Tigers seven-on-seven team reached the semi-finals in the program’s first trip to the state tournament.

The Tigers were 1-2 in pool games, opening play with a 39-12 loss to Wimberly, before bouncing back to defeat Carthage, 28-21. The team finished pool play by falling to Glen Rose, 33-28.

Playing in the consolation bracket, Wills Point defeated Whitney, 33-14, and followed that up with a 40-33 win over Goldthwaite. In the semi-final game, the Tigers fell to West, 32-20. West went on the defeat Carthage for the consolation title.

Steven Cunigan was named to the Division II All-Tournament team. Only 11 players of the 600 participants were selected to the team.
