City And School Candidates Square Off At Polls Saturday

City and school voters will go to the polls Saturday to elect new officers.

Only a few residents took advantage of early voting that closed Tuesday. Hunt County Elections Administrator Almina Cook said only nine votes were cast early by Friday in Quinlan Independent School District’s election. Four were cast early by mail. The numbers were even fewer for City of Quinlan ballots with only three counted. The entire county only had 118 voters to cast early ballots by Friday.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday. Ballots will be counted at the Hunt County Elections Office with whom local entities contracted to hold the elections except the City of East Tawakoni that will be handled by the Rains County Elections Office in Emory.

City of Quinlan

City of Quinlan voters will vote at Trestle Board Masonic Lodge in Quinlan. The lodge is located at 402 Richmond.

One race is on Quinlan ballots. Clellan Foster and Craig Waters both filed for the Place 4 council position. Place 4 incumbent R.W. Oliver did not seek reelection.

Quinlan Councilwoman Carole Petty filed for reelection to her Place 2 position without opposition, and Mayor Sharon Royal filed for a new term without opposition.

Quinlan ISD

Two polling locations will be open for Quinlan ISD voters. Precincts 213, 215, 216, 217, 218, 322, 323 and 324 will vote at Trestle Board Masonic Lodge in Quinlan. Precinct 321 only will vote at West Tawakoni City Hall, located at 1533 State Highway 276 East in West Tawakoni.

All four incumbents whose terms will expire this year are opposed by a challenger.

In Place 1, incumbent Kevin Fritch will face off with Paula Reeves.

For Place 2, incumbent Michelle Harrison is opposed by Sheri Bostick.

The Place 3 job is held by Kenny Stone. He is challenged by Dale Sikorsky.

The Place 4 one-year job choices are incumbent Todd Darter and J.R. Watson. Darter was appointed to fill an unexpired term after the death of Dennis Earls.

City of East Tawakoni

In East Tawakoni, Place 1 incumbent Pam Whitfield is opposed by challengers Johnnie LaPrade and April Rodgers.

Place 2 incumbent Mark Himelright is opposed by Walt Pollard.

The Place 4 incumbent, Bobbie Harman, will face off with opponent Pam Patterson.

Voting will be at East Tawakoni City Hall.

City of Lone Oak

The City of Lone Oak will have several choices on its ballots. In the Place 1 running are David Sumrall and Michael Barrow. Incumbent Kandy Burchett did not file for a new term.

For Place 2, incumbent Neil Dent is opposed by Misty Lutz. In Place 3, Mona Collins and Shane Stovall will square off for the seat currently held by Michelle Gregory who did not file for reelection.

The Place 5 position is currently held by Carol Portugal who did not seek a new term. C. Gordon Galloway filed for that seat without opposition.

The polling location will be at the former Lone Oak Elementary School, located at 8162 State Highway 69 South, Lone Oak.

Lone Oak ISD

Lone Oak Independent School District voters will elect two at-large trustees. Incumbents Wayne Burton and Terry Gipson are challenged by Jeremy McClanahan and Paul Kelley.

Voting will be at the former Lone Oak Elementary School.

Combined Consumers SUD

Combined Consumers Special Utility District will elect two board members on Saturday. Ward Guffey and Don Madden are incumbents in the positions. They are seeking reelection and will be joined on the ballots by Joseph Grouse and Ken Searcey.

Voting will be at the Combined Consumers office at 10472 FM 751.
