Quinlan School Voters Reseat Incumbents, City Elects Waters

Quinlan Independent School District voters gave all four incumbent trustees new terms at Saturday’s election.

Hunt County Elections Administrator said a technical glitch in equipment delayed Saturday night’s count of the ballots. Winners were unknown until after 11 p.m.

In Place 1, Kevin Fritch retained his position on the board with 141 votes; 10 early votes and 131 on election day.

Challenger Paula Reeves was 30 votes behind with a count of 111; also 10 early votes and 101 at the regular balloting.

Michelle Harrison was the top vote getter in Place 2 to win another three-year term. She received 148 votes; 16 early ballots and 132 at the election.

Sheri Bostick was 44 behind with a total of 104; 5 early and 99 on election day.

In Place 3, Kenny Stone outdistanced his rival for a new term with a vote count of 161; 14 early and 147 at the election.

He won over his challenger, Dale Sikorsky, who received 95; 7 early and 88 on election day.

The Place 4 win went to incumbent Todd Darter with a total vote count of 165; 11 early and 154 election ballots.

Challenger J.R. Watson received a total of 84; 9 early and 75 regular.

City of Quinlan

Only one race was on the City of Quinlan ballots — the Place 4 position, held by incumbent R.W. Oliver who chose not to seek reelection.

Craig Waters was the winner with 41 votes; 3 early and 38 at the poll on Saturday.

Clellan Foster received 12 votes; all 12 cast on Saturday with no early ballots to his favor.

Mayor Sharon Royal ran unopposed for a new term. She received 3 early votes and 43 on Saturday for a total of 46.

Carole Petty also ran unopposed for her Place 2 council position. She received 3 early votes and 40 at the regular election.

City of Lone Oak

City of Lone Oak voters elected four council members including Place 1 that was won by David Sumrall with 80 votes, including 14 early ballots. Challenger Micheal Barrow took 31; 2 early and 29 at the poll.

For Place 2, voters gave 54 total votes to Neil Dent; 1 early and 53 on Saturday.

In second place was Kandi Burchett with 42 that included 10 early votes. Misty Lutz ran third with 14 votes including 6 early ballots.

In the Place 3 position, balloting was close. Mona Collins won with 58 total votes including 14 early ones that put her over the top. Shane Stovall was only 3 behind with a vote count of 55; 3 early and 52 at the poll.

In Place 5, Gordon Galloway ran unopposed and received 91 votes, including 15 early ballots.

Lone Oak ISD

Voters in Lone Oak Independent School District elected two trustees on Saturday from a field of four candidates.

Incumbent Terry Gipson was the top vote getter with 132, including 18 early votes, to gain a new term. However, incumbent Wayne Burton was nudged out by challenger Paul Kelley with 93 total votes, including 13 early. Burton received a total of 81 that included 11 early votes. Fourth runner was Jeremy McClanahan with a total vote count of 43, including 7 early ballots.

Combined Consumers SUD

Combined Consumers Special Utility District reelected two incumbent board members — W. Ward Guffey and Don Madden.

Madden was the top vote getter with 23 total including 1 early vote. Guffey was in second place with 15 votes, all cast on election day.

In third place was Kenneth D. Searcey who received 10 votes, including 3 early and 7 at the poll. Joseph H. Thrush received 0 votes.

City of East Tawakoni

City of East Tawakoni voters in Rains County elected the challengers Saturday over incumbent council members.

In Place 1, Johnnie LaPrade was the winner with 88 votes. She won over incumbent Pam Whitfield who tallied 24. April Rodgers received 6 votes.

A close vote unseated Mark Himelright in the Place 2 running. Walt Pollard was the successful challenger with 59 votes, 5 more than Himelright’s 54 count.

Place 4 incumbent Bobbie Harman was unseated by Pam Patterson who received 87 votes to Harman’s 31.
