Man Arrested On Child Sex Charges
A Quinlan man was arrested Monday on five counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and one count of prohibited sexual conduct.
Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks told The News that Phillip Randall Gullett was arrested on the charges at an undisclosed location other than his home.
Meeks said the charges stemmed out of incidents involving one child that occurred from 2003 through 2004. He said the alleged female victim was 8-years-old when the incidents began.
When asked why the charges were just now being made, Meeks said, "We just recently had an outcry from the victim."
He said Gullett was a former employee of the Quinlan Independent School District who resigned a couple of weeks ago from the maintenance department.
"This case is still ongoing," Meeks said. Gullett’s total bond was set at $175,000. He said his Criminal Investigation Unit was working the case, and other charges were possible.
Quinlan Supt. Micheal French confirmed that Gullett resigned from the school district recently. He said background checks conducted before his employment "have been clean."
"We want to take care of any concerns and issues parents might have," French said and said a letter would be sent home with students concerning the matter.
The letter states, "Quinlan Independent School District officials were informed that a former Quinlan ISD employee has been charged with aggravated sexual abuse of a child. The Hunt County Sheriff’s Department is currently conducting an investigation into this matter. The district is fully cooperating with all law enforcement efforts. If you have any questions, please contact Chief Ferrara, QISD Chief of Police, at 903-356-2155. While no additional details are available at this time, we want to assure you that the safety of our students is our number one priority."
