Larry Brisco, Editor

The Quinlan School Board reorganized Monday night for the coming year after the oath of office was administered to trustees that were reelected at the May 9 election.

Kenny Stone was reelected as president of the board. Scott Cornuaud was again chosen as vice president, and the board reelected Kevin Fritch as secretary.

Doster returns

Personnel matters were handled in open session in lieu of a closed executive meeting. Popular math teacher Jeff Doster who retired was rehired as a part-time teacher at W.H. Ford High School. Doster retired from the high school in 2007.

Official approval was given to Chris Taylor as announced earlier as the new principal at Joe Martin Early Childhood Center. He is a Quinlan native and graduate of W.H. Ford High School. Taylor will take the position held by Casey Johnson who is serving his third year in the job. Johnson is the son of former longtime Supt. Larry Johnson and has accepted a principal position at Center Point ISD.

Another graduate of W.H. Ford High School, David Ivey was hired for a resource reading position and girls athletic coach at the high school.

Ivey is a graduate of Texas A&M University at Commerce with a Bachelor Degree in kinesiology.

Angela Vaughn was hired for a dyslexia position. She is a graduate of Texas A&M University at Commerce and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in business administration.

Daryl Lewis was hired for physical education and boys coach. He was All Conference defensive end at West Texas A&M University at Canyon where his honors included Player of the Year.

In other personnel matters, resignations were accepted from Ronnie Carpenter, Brandy Griffin, Casey Johnson and Greg Carpenter.

Miller reports

Business Office Manager Billie Miller reported on the district’s finances. She said total revenue for the month was $1,262,006.56. Expenses totaled $1,956,874.13. The cash flow showed an ending balance for April of $7,500,061.21. That amount earned interest of $3,129 for the month.

Miller said the district collected taxes, penalties and interest in the amount of $186,200.64 during the month of April. She received approval for budget transfers.

Other business

• An interlocal agreement was approved with Region 4 Education Service Center. Supt. Micheal French said the agreement would allow the district to save money on computers. "It gives us more buying power," he said and noted that in addition to cheaper prices the agreements took care of legalities of bidding laws.

• French received approval to move the June meeting date from the third Monday to the fourth Monday, June 29. He said the later date would give extra time to receive information on what the state legislature would do regarding school finance. "We are going to take a conservation approach anyway," he said.

• All board members were present.
