Ford Wrestlers Looking To Move On To Regionals

Terry Britt, Staff Writer

The prospects look good for many Quinlan Ford wrestlers to advance to regionals as they get ready for the District 19 tournament Saturday at Rockwall High School.

The Panthers’ Nick Massey (8-7) heads into the tournament as the top seed in the 119 weight class and has defeated all of his district opponents this season.

Ford coach Dustin Davisson also has three wrestlers with 21 wins thus far. Al Balliette (21-3) has defeated all district opponents this year in the 160 weight class, but has dropped weight to compete in the 152 class.

Colton Scott (21-8) will wrestle in the 160 class and Moises Maldanado (21-4) will carry the team’s hopes in the 171 class.

Nathan Riley is 16-3 in the 130 weight class and is favored in that division. Derek Grant (12-4) in the 189 class and Tim Welk (18-10) in the 215 class are both seeded third and stand a good chance of advancing.

Others hoping to advance include Levi Linday in the 103 class, Lundy Belhansen in 112, David Henry in 125, Garrett Crosby in 145 and Jesus Castalleja in 180.

On the girls’ side, only Quinlan Ford and Lancaster fielded teams this year, so both schools’ competitors will automatically advance to regionals.

Ford will have Taylor Mathis in 110, Stephanie Moore in 119, Heather Doiron in 128, Nikki Lawson in 138, Lisa Little in 165 and Bailey Stone in 185.

Wrestling will start at 10 a.m. in the main gym of Rockwall High School. The top two wrestlers advance to regionals in each weight class.
