Boles Drops Two But Tops Cumby

Terry Britt

A scoring drought at the wrong time kept the Boles Hornets from possibly taking their second district win in three games.

The Hornets were outscored 24-2 in the third quarter Tuesday night as Campbell went on to a 64-49 win.

Boles head coach Gordon Jordan saw a 26-20 halftime advantage evaporate quickly after Campbell’s Dakota Dawson hit a 3-pointer to end the first half.

"That really took the momentum away from us and gave it to them," Jordan said.

Michael Jordan had 13 points to lead Boles, while Austin Cantrell added 12 and Stephen Hatchel finished with 11, all of his points coming in the first half,

Other scorers for Boles included Tate Stevens with seven and Taylor Duran with two. The Hornets saw three of their players foul out and they ended the game with five eligible players.

Dawson finished with 17 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead Campbell.

That loss followed one last Friday at Martins Mill, 60-28. Cantrell had eight points and Jordan added seven to lead the Hornets’ effort.

Last Thursday, the Hornets outlasted Cumby in a game that did not feature much offense. Michael Jordan’s seven points topped the list of Boles scorers in a 24-17 win.

"It was only 9-6 at halftime," said Coach Jordan. "We got down 15-11 early in the fourth quarter but we hit two 3-pointers, one by Cyle Monroe and the other by Michael Jordan.

"Those were both big. We got ahead again and Cumby had to start fouling. We hit seven of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter to hang on," he added.

Monroe finished with five points, Johnathan Lewis had four, Cantrell and Hatchel ended with two each, and Stevens and Chris Hornsby had one point apiece.
