Boles Athletes Cleveland, Harris Earn Trips To State

Larry Briscoe, Editor

Two Boles High School athletes will compete over the next couple of weeks at state powerlifting contests.

Freshman Mariah Harris, daughter of James and Monica Harris, will compete Saturday, March 21, at Corpus Christi in the state competition after qualifying at the Regional meet.

Mariah is relatively new to the sport. Her goal when she entered the sport in January was to compete at the region level and possibly going to state in her upper classman years.

That achievement comes early after impressive stats were earned at the Regional meet in the 105-pound class. Athletic Director Todd Wallace added that Mariah was the lightest lifter in her division. She achieved 95 pounds at the bench press; 200 pound squat; and 205 pound deadlift for a total lift of 500 pounds.

Senior Bryan Cleveland, son of Jeff and Nancy Cleveland, competed at Frankston in the Regional contest and placed second in the super heavyweight division for weights over 275 pounds.

Bryan achieved stats of squat, 540 pounds; bench press, 315 pounds; deadlift, 570 pounds; for a total of 1,425 pounds.

Bryan has competed in powerlifting all four years of high school, but this will be his first trip to state. He achieved fifth place last year at Regionals.

He will make the trip to Abilene on Saturday, March 28, for the State contest.
