Hornets Turn Back Scurry-Rosser, 33-14

Terry Britt

Kailob Wallace threw for three touchdowns and rushed for two to lead the Boles Hornets to a 33-14 victory over Scurry-Rosser last Friday night.

The Hornets (2-0) travel to Dallas Life tonight (Friday) for a 7:30 kickoff.

Wallace completed just four passes the entire evening against Scurry-Rosser and had two attempts picked off by the Wildcat defense.

But the completions were big ones, starting with a 13-yard scoring strike to Stephen Hatchel to pull the Hornets within one, 7-6. That came after Scurry-Rosser took an early lead on a 23-yard touchdown run by Carlos Cruz and the extra-point kick.

Wallace hooked up with Hatchel again in the second quarter, this time on a 36-yard touchdown pass. Lane Sutton ran in the two-point conversion to give Boles a 14-7 lead.

That advantage remained at the end of the first half but the Hornets gave themselves some breathing room in the third quarter.

Wallace tossed a 24-yard touchdown to Andy Allen, who also tacked on the extra point to make it 21-7.

Scurry-Rosser responded with a 35-yard touchdown run from Blaise Brown and another PAT kick, but that would be as close as the Wildcats would get.

Wallace cashed in on running plays, capping a drive in the third quarter with a 1-yard touchdown and then turning on the afterburners for a 65-yard TD run in the fourth. He finished with 104 yards on 10 carries.

Sutton topped the list with 108 yards rushing on 12 carries.

Defensively, Wallace and Allen both recorded an interception in the game. Wallace also had seven tackles and five assists.

Tracy Brockway finished with five tackles and three assists, while Tony Allen added three tackles and four assists, including four plays behind the line of scrimmage.
