After Cancellation, Hornets Add Game Against Frisco Liberty JV

Terry Britt, Staff Writer

Boles never got a chance to win its third game of the season last Friday — the weather would not allow it.

After waiting about an hour and a half to see if the thunder, lightning and rain would clear, officials from both Boles and Dallas Life Academy opted to call off the contest.

"We were willing to wait until 10 p.m.," Boles Head Coach Todd Wallace said, "but there was another storm cell right behind that one. It was a bit before 9 p.m. when we agreed the game should be cancelled."

The situation could have posed a real problem for the Hornets because they had an open date this week, meaning Wallace was facing a two-week layoff for his team.

Frisco ISD came to the rescue, though.

The Hornets were able to schedule a game played Thursday evening (Sept. 17) in Frisco against the Liberty High School junior varsity.

"(Monday), I got on the phone and on my computer and called every small school in the area, thinking one or two might have had a game that also got cancelled or postponed and had a bye this week," Wallace said.

"I also sent a mass e-mail to every Dallas-Fort Worth area school that had a bye this week and fortunately I had a couple of hits on it," he added, noting that an offer to play the Colleyville Heritage freshman team came in right after the deal with Frisco Liberty was set.

Wallace said he is relieved his varsity team could get back on the field this week.

"You don’t ever want to go two weeks in the season without playing. There is nothing for the kids to get up for and practice hard every day," he said.

"Last week, the team was working hard preparing for a game and didn’t get to play...I said let’s take last week’s game plan and just go with it. The kids are happy to have a chance to play, and even though it is a bigger school, I don’t want them thinking, ‘Oh, it’s just a JV team,’ and wind up getting our tail whipped," Wallace added.

He said Frisco Liberty does run a spread offense similar to what the Hornets were preparing for against Dallas Life Academy.

"Dallas Life was the only spread team we saw in non-district play, and one of things we said we needed to work on," Wallace said. "I’m expecting this to be a good, hard game to be honest."

Boles will be on the road again next Friday at Union Hill at 7:30 p.m.
